LUXURY INTERIOR DESIGNERS

With a name synonymous with fine linens and a long-standing reputation for excellence, William Woods Interior Design is a unique family business, offering a highly personal, professional interior design service for private residential homes.

When, in 1895, William’s grandfather opened Woods of Harrogate, one of the most comprehensive sources for fine linens in Europe, he was continuing a century-old family association with linen. Seventy years later, William headed for London to gain valuable experience and train as an interior designer. The interior design service William established on his return was a natural development – so too the integration of his daughter, Sarah, into the family business eight years ago.

Today, William and Sarah combine their complimentary talents to provide a highly personal, high-end interior design service, based on extensive knowledge, solid experience and traditional values. Together with an in-house team of Harrogate Interior Designers and craftspeople, and a strong network of specialists, we produce a highly individual and carefully considered, concept-to-completion design solution.

Our dedicated team of Luxury Interior Designers appreciate just how much service, attention to detail and quality matters and that is what we aim to deliver!

WILLIAM E. WOODS

William Woods leads a creative team of Interior Designers in Harrogate with an enthusiasm that never pales. With a keen interest in conservation and more than forty years of experience developing period houses, country houses, listed buildings and working with National Trust Architects, William’s profound knowledge of all aspects of interior design is combined with a balanced, down-to-earth approach and commitment to traditional values.

William’s burgeoning interest in design was to dramatically accelerate at the age of seventeen, on inheriting Woods of Harrogate, the Woods family’s fine linen store, established since 1895. His response was to abandon his ambition to take up the law in favour of seeking experience that would befit his new role. First William headed to Northern Ireland to develop his technical knowledge of linen, working for a linen manufacturer of spinners, weavers and dyers. Subsequently, William travelled to London, to work at contemporary design company, Heal & Son when it too was a family business. It was this experience at Heal’s, a company at the vanguard of British contemporary interior design that inspired William to train in London as an interior designer. After four years away from home, William finally returned to Harrogate, to take up the reins of the family business and establish William Woods Interior Design.

Four decades later, with a characteristic sensitivity of touch, together with a trusted team of first-class specialists who share his commitment and values, William creates exceptionally comfortable, elegant residential interiors, which exude natural, effortless style.

SARAH T. WOODS

Fifth generation family member, Sarah Woods, joined William Woods' team of  Interior Designers in 2004, instantly impressing clients with a maturity and professionalism that belies her age.

Having achieved an honours degree in English and History at the University of Leeds, Sarah followed her ambition to study interior design and architecture in London at KLC, drawn by the practical, experiential nature of the course and its strong focus on knowledge and skills. On completing her training, Sarah worked for a leading interior design practice in London to further develop her craft, finally returning to Yorkshire to fulfil her long-term dream of joining the family business, working alongside her father at William Woods Interior Design.

Sarah has subsequently made her mark as a highly professional and creative interior designer, known for developing elegant, timeless interiors that marry traditional style with contemporary spirit. Recent projects range from refurbishment of an elegant country house in the Yorkshire Dales to the development of a Regency pied à terre in South-West London and redecoration of a contemporary home to showcase a young family’s remarkable, eclectic collection of artwork, portraiture and sculpture. As many grateful clients will attest, Sarah’s easy-going persona masks an impressive work ethic and her inner confidence comes from a sureness of touch you can trust.
